What to do in the area
?
Wellington
is situated in the heart of the wine-cultivating region of South
Africa. Cape Town, Franshoek, Stellenbosch, Tulbach, and the two
oceans are
a comfortable distance of less than an hour's drive away. It is a convenient country home very
close to city life. Wellington's history began as a wagon-
building town providing heavy duty ox-wagons for the early
settlers to cross the mountains into the Karoo. In mid 1800 the
Bainskloof pass was
built and is well worth a drive, as it was constructed more
or less by hand and features stunning views, hiking trails and a
unique
range
of Fynbos and Proteas (our national flower). Wellington offers a
historic watch tower from wartime, museums, Victorian and Cape Dutch
architecture and many well-known wine estates are in the area - open
to the public to taste their wines and enjoy cheeses and homemade
produce. International rugby events, cycling and marathons are the
occasions the country and sometimes the world takes notice of Wellington.
Visit the leather factory, or one of the estates, the museum, go
for clay-pigeon
shooting, taste brandy at one of the private brandy cellars, hike
up the Bainskloof trail, arrange horse-riding, play
golf on South Africas oldest 9 hole course, or play tennis or squash
in town. Restaurants, coffee shops, antique dealers and an
art gallery
on
a nearby farm
will fill your day. We assist in arranging individual group tours with registered
professional tourguides for you on request.

On the
Farm
Enjoy
your day at the swimming pool, watch the farm animals, play a
round of billiards or Petanque (boule). The new big chess and an outdoor table tennis table is there for you too. During harvest you can actually
see the grapes turn into wine before your eyes. In
winter, there is no better place than in front of our big Cape Dutch
fireplace with a glass of red wine. Near by a snake farm, lion rescue and crocodile farm are open to the public. Or visit a near by alpaca breeding farm with a cottage industry.
Oude
Wellington Estate is a working farm with animals, vineyards and
a winery using open fermentation and wooden basket-press. A
traditional Brandy distillery with a build in restaurant.
We also have horses on the farm. Our pets include lovable dogs and cats, geese and two alpacas. Our excellent spa for massages. Hiking trails and rock pools in a small national park are a 40 minutes drive away.
